Up and Sprayed or Loose and Tame?

I don't know how it escaped me but I completely forgot about the Academy Awards this year! Apparently, I wasn't the only one since ratings were the worst they've ever been. Shocking, huh?

Thanks to the Internet, I caught all the red carpet fashion and hairstyle trends for this year (90% of why I watch anyway). I noticed one of the biggest trends was the loose low ponytails (like Cameron Diaz). Of course, there were a few traditional updos sprinkled throughout the crowd of starlets...for example, Hedi Klum.

What do you think? Is it time that upstyles became a little more casual? On one hand it makes the event seem more 'fun' and less stuffy. However, do you miss out on the opportunity to get really dressed up by just throwing your hair into a ponytail? I believe there's a happy medium.

....Miley Cyrus and Marion Cotillard are great examples!

Salon Update: So I'm coming down to the last few weeks before Maternity Leave and my schedule is PACKED! However, if I can, I'll try to squeeze you in... but you'll have to email me. I'll call you back with my availability and we'll set something up. I would hate for anyone to have to wait until May!

We had our first baby shower on Saturday! It was not your traditional shower. (If you know me at all, you know that I just couldn't do it that way.) We had invited everyone...guys, girls, kids...it was a blast. We had a lot of very dear friends and family show up, plus we scored tons of baby loot!

I know it's kind of late to be posting a Christmas picture but I just couldn't resist. Besides, it's still Christmas at our house... since we are having some work done on our basement, we haven't been able to get to the storage boxes to put our Christmas decorations away! Our cat is happy because he still has a safe haven from our dogs but I have to say I'm sick of looking at it all!

Well, big changes are coming up for me! If you are on my email list, you should have received details regarding my maternity leave. If not, you can contact me here for more info.

So what's else is new? Well, Metro the Salon has officially opened the doors of Metro the Spa. You can check out more information at their website.

I am so excited for this new year! I hope it's started off wonderful for you too!

I've been trying my best to keep up on the latest trends in Haircolor! Here are a few classes that I've attended recently...

The Keune Color class was amazing! I always love it when I get a change to experience a new color line. Especially when we get to apply the color to a live model!

Another class that I had the opportunity to attend was held at our salon. It was a Nexxus product and color class. I loved being in this class with all my girls from the salon.

I love the Fall! It's that time of year for pumpkins, apple picking, cider, hay rides and bonfires! Here's to an awesome autumn season!

Lately, I've totally neglected my blog so now it's time for a serious update! Well, we finally got all moved into our new home and are 90% finished with our projects. Still, there's always something to be done and we haven't completely unpacked. People are telling me that they STILL have boxes in their home that they've never opened from their move of 5, 10, even 15 years ago....THAT'S encouraging!

I've also been working with a great company on called Snap Creative making corporate videos for professional websites. It's a fun side project that finds me in the studio once a month. Here's one of their latest projects. www.facilitywarehouse.com Be sure to click on the buying and selling links so that you can see each video!

Also, this past month was the release of the long awaited (and final) Harry Potter book. Main Street Books had a party leading up to the release and they asked me to be a part of it. I was in charge of putting colored hairspray into the hair of each Harry Potter fan. It was a blast! Check out the slideshow below!

Hello All,
It's been a long time since I've posted. As usual, thing have been busy with weddings, graduations, and vacations! My brother-in-law got married in May and their wedding was a blast. We were in the wedding and it was the most fun wedding that I have ever been a part of!
At work, I've been busy with extensions. Check out my Extensions Page on my site to see the before and after pictures.
The biggest news in my life right now is that we're moving! Not too far away but to a great little neighborhood that we've had our eye on for a while. So this summer I will be busy decorating and painting. I'm excited to try out some new paint techniques. If you've got any ideas or great websites, let me know!
Other than that, I'm looking forward to a summer laying out around the pool. Hope you have a great summer too!

Hello all! As usual I've had a busy month. I'll give you the abbreviated version. First off, my precious dog Max had knee surgery. You can get more details from the slideshow below. The hard part of all of this is his 16 week recovery! He has to be confined to a room where he has minimal movement. Wish us luck!
Secondly, I got a chance to update my photographs. You might have noticed a few floating around my site. The photographer is Kelly Manno and she is awesome. She made the experience quick and super fun. Check out her page especially if you're in need of a wedding photograper or birth photography. www.KellyMannoPhotography.com
Finally, I am SO excited to announce that I am offering a new service to my menu... hair extensions! I'll be offering special discount rates for the first 6 months (until November). If you have dreamed of having super long hair, extra thick hair, or just want to add a few fantasy colors with no added risk to your existing haircolor you can come to me!

Well, that's it for me! Don't forget to take advantage of this month's special offer and I hope to see you in the salon soon!

Ahhh March. I am so pleased to see that we're finally transitioning out of the dreary winter weather! March is the beginning of many great things, including Saint Patricks Day. I'm planning to participate in St. Louis' Saint Patty's Day run! It's always a fun time, plus you can stay downtown to see the parade! My husband and I are going with our super athletic friends so we've been training so that we won't fall behind too badly. :)

I've also had a fun February! A girls nite out at Bailey's Chocolate Bar! If you've never been, you should go. The atmosphere is so cozy and fun which also makes it a great date place! The menu is so cute. It is listed in order of what's so great about The Chocolate Bar, it's desserts! You'll find wonderful, decadent desserts listed first, then cheese and fruit plates, and finally pizzettas (tiny pizzas).

Along with a fun night out with the girls, February was also filled with our cousin's wedding. I was so nervous about doing the Bride's hair, especially since I was a bridesmaid in the wedding! The ceremony took place at The Conservatory on Main Street in St. Charles. It was a beautiful wedding and a fun reception.

Well, I hope you've had a great February and enjoy the nice March weather (while we still have it, right?).

P.S. Don't forget to check out this month's special offer!

Can you believe that this is my first blog of 2007?!?
I feel like such a slacker!
Well, if your January was anything like mine, you know that I was not a slacker but more busy than I could anticipate. I never thought that the slowest month for a hairstylist would turn out to be one of my busiest.

Along with teaching tons of haircolor classes, it seemed that many people were in some need of my services in January. I was definitely glad to be needed! Plus, it was great for everyone to experience the salon's new location while it's brand-spankin' new. If you haven't been in yet, I can't wait for you to come see me.

Things have obviously been busy at work and I can't say they've slowed down in any other aspect of life. I found another little part-time acting job. (That's right. Like my husband says, I can't just have ONE job.) Right now, I'm doubling as a spokes model for marketing and distributing firm that manufactures decorative solid surfaces (countertops). I know it sounds confusing...Bottom line is I am doing informational videos for the company. It's fun being a spokes model. So far I've only done a few recordings. Hopefully they will use me for more!

On the stressful side of things, so far this year my identity has been stolen and used to spend over $10,000 with department store credit cards, a tree fell down in front of our house because of the ice storm, our dog may have to have hip replacement surgery (poor little guy!) and I *still* haven't made it through my client list to call and update everyone with news of the location change!

However, things are looking up! I am so excited for Valentine's Day! I have no desire to go to an overcrowded restaurant and eat an overly expensive dinner just because tradition dictates. Instead, I plan on taking in a double-feature at the movie theater. My two desired movie choices are "Because I Said So" starring Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore and Lauren Graham and "Music and Lyrics" with Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant. My husband isn't too excited to see two back-to-back chick flicks but it's not too much to ask of a Valentine's Day gift, right?

I hope you have a wonderful February (don’t forget to check out this month’s special offer) and I won’t let it go too long before my next update.

Thanks for reading....If you can, leave me a comment. I thrive off of the interaction. :)

Hello there!
I can't believe that we are almost finished with the year 2006! Time has really flown by this year. I've got so much going on (as I'm sure we all do) with Christmas traditions and Christmas parties and, of course, the shopping! The hot item this year seems to be the new video game systems out there. Especially the new Nintendo Wii. If you aren't familiar with this new way to play video games, well, then come on over to our house! We've had so many friends and family members over to play our new Wii. I've got to say Wii just love it! hee hee!!!

If you aren't familiar with how the video game works, I'll give you a brief lesson. Basically, you move your controller to mimic the actions that you want your video game character to create. For example, when you are playing baseball, you'll hold your remote (or Wiimote) like a bat and swing as the ball approaches. When you are bowling you will hold your remote like the ball and swing forward hoping for a strike (or if you are me, a spare). The games are so much fun and you'd never believe that you would get so 'into' it. Watch videos of other's playing their Wii.

In other news, our salon is moving... four doors down. So alot of things will stay the same; like parking, our phone number and the route you take to come see me! What will change is the size of our space, meaning the salon is going to have a lot more room (thank goodness!) and we are offering additional services starting with laser hair removal. I look forward to seeing you in our new space January 2007.... that's only a couple of weeks away! Eek!

Well, I'd better get back to Christmas shopping online...only a few more days to order my items to guarantee shipment by the 25th!

Have a very Merry Christmas and and Wonderful New Year.

SSG Nashville Hairshow - Featuring Goldwell and KMS

So I got a chance to work as an assistant at the Nashville Hairshow (aka Groupie Gathering). As you can see, I had a blast! This is my 4th time working the hairshow and my 2nd time in Nashville. Like I mentioned in my last post, I usually help with Goldwell's (the haircolor company that I am an educator for) presentation. This time I thought that I was going to be working with Pureology but instead I was assigned to work with Brad Ngata from KMS.

Brad was very nice. He put me in charge of most everything. From coloring the models hair with my own formulations to pre-setting all of the models hair for his presentation. I worked with him for 2 days before the actual show. We didn't have much time to talk but I did learn that he was a hairstylist from Austraila. Well, apparently that's not ALL he is!

On the day of the show, the atmosphere is hectic backstage. You have to make sure all the models are prepped, dressed and in line. I am backstage but we can see everything on these huge monitors, including the introductions of the Guest Artists. When it was time to introduce Brad they played a 10 minute video about him. I was amazed to find out that I had been working with Austraila's two time winner of the "Hairdresser of the Year" award! What an honor!

My first blog! How exciting! What should I write about? Hmmmmm.

Well, things are going wonderfully at the salon. I feel like I am busier than ever. That's a good thing! I can always take new clients. I love the challenge of a new cut and color and I love meeting new people.

I am also staying busy with teaching. In a couple of weeks I head off to Nashville for the Salon Service Group Hair Show. It's going to be fun. This year my role is very different. In years past, I have been assistant to the main Goldwell Artist. This year I am responsible for coloring and designing the color choices for a shampoo and styling line called Pureology. You see, the show consists of artists from many different product lines. At the Nashville show we have Pureology, MOP, KMS and Goldwell. Out of all these lines, Goldwell is the only line that does color. The rest are styling lines. So when the other lines give a presentation on a new cut, style or updo they have to make sure the model they are using has beautiful haircolor. That's where I come in!
So it's a new position for me. I am nervous and excited. In the past I just did what the artist told me to do. NOW I get to make the decisions!

Things at home are going well. Always a project around the house. Currently we are redoing our office. It used to be our bedroom. So where is our bedroom? It's in our old 'animal room' (which used to be called a library before we got all of our pets!). And now where is the 'animal room'? Well, they no longer have a room. The only reason we bestowed a room to our animals is because the dogs kennels were SO big that there was no good place to put them in the house.... except in that room!

So we (and that really means I) had an excellent idea for our new office. We (this time that means Christopher) took down the sliding doors to the closet, put up shelves and left space at the bottom for the dogs to hang. That's right, they have a bed right under our shelves. Now the kennels are folded up and in the garage and we have so much more room in the house! The dogs are so cute under there and they really like their new beds!

So the room is still 'under construction'. I still have to put my finishing touches on it. It sure is hard to decorate when your working with the paint color we chose. BRIGHT GREEN.
I'm trying not to make it look like a little kids room. It will take some time!

So that's it for me! Thanks for reading. Have a wonderful day!
